Summary

Physical Description

Pair of women's slip on shoes of concrete construction with almond toe and covered stiletto heel. The shoes consist of red satin uppers, with a back seam, featuring decoration in a scrolling design in clear and glass beads, diamantes and imitation seed pearls. The uppers are lined in leather with a suede heel grip and the sock is also in leather. The heel is covered in red satin and features a rubber top piece.

HISTORY

Notes

This pair of shoes was owned and worn by Margaret Reid ('Babby' or ‘Babbie') Ross Munro, mother of donor, Anne Fairbairn. Margaret Reid was married to Clive Reid the son of the former Prime Minister George Reid, who was the first federal Leader of the Opposition and the first High Commissioner to the UK. Sir George Reid governed for a total of 10 months and 17 days. (1904 and 1905). Margaret known as ‘Babby’ or ‘Babbie’ Ross Munro was the daughter of Mr and Mrs W Ross-Munro, Ross-Roy, pastoralists of Indooroopilly, Queensland.
