This armchair and footstool called 'Womb', made of a plastic shell with chromium-plated tubular steel, latex foam and wool fabric, was designed in the USA by Eero Saarinen in 1945. It has been manufactured by M. Knoll International in America since 1948 and this example dates from 1987. Eero Saarinen declared that "people sit differently today . . . They want to sit lower and they like to slouch".
