Cyclops 'Rowcar' disabled child's ride-on toy
Object No. 86/365
This child's toy "Rowcar" made in Australia by Cyclops Industries Pty Ltd between 1971 and 1972 was especially designed for disabled children. It is made of moulded plastic, with no sharp edges, on a metal frame which is mounted on four rubber-tyred wheels. The T-bar is pushed or pulled to move the car along and the footrest can be adjusted to suit different size riders. The row car was designed and made in Sydney by Cyclops Industries Pty Ltd and used at the NSW Society for Crippled Children at Surry Hills. During the Second World War the only toys Cyclops were permitted to make were dinkies and tricycles for orphanages and hospitals used by children with Infantile Paralysis (Poliomyelitis) to strengthen and exercise their limbs.
