This glass bottle provides information in regards to the manufacturing of glass products in Australia and their domestic uses. These objects give insight into private collections held by an Australian, covering domestic life from the 1920's-1960's in Australia. They allow us to gain more of an understanding of how people lived and worked in the home at this time. These objects can also give insight into significant events in our country including post World War 1, the depression, World War II and early post war years.

Physical Description
This moulded clear glass bottle is rounded with an oval base and tapers at the shoulders to form a short bulbous neck and moulded rim fitted with a metal cap that is painted white with a red insignia on the top. There is impressed lettering on the front and back of the bottle providing information on trade, sale conditions and warnings. The impressed lettering and numbering on the base provides trade and serial information for Australian Glass Manufacturing (A.G.M). The kerosene was made by the Vacuum Oil Company Pty. Ltd.

Mobil's predecessor company, Vacuum Oil, first opened its Melbourne branch in February 1895. Mobil's Flying Red Horse (Pegasus) logo first appeared in Australia in 1939 and became one of Australia's best recognised corporate symbols. Australian Glass Manufacturers Co. Ltd. (AGM) opened for a brief period in Tasmania, amalgamated with the Zetland Glass Bottle Works Ltd., Sydney in 1922. The nominal capital for the new company was GBP 2,000,000 which was divided into 175,000 shares of GBP 1 each and 1,852,000 ordinary shares of GBP 1 each. The amalgamation represented the consolidation of the strongest glassware manufactures in the country 1. From Gladys Nairn (Donors aunt) estate. This formed part of the collection acquired by the museum. Gladys May Nairn (1900-1985) was originally from the Wagga Wagga area. She lived in Burwood after she got married in 1926.
