PRODUCTION

Notes

See part records for makers names. The costume was orginally worn by Mrs C W Oliver's grandmother in about 1885-1888 for her wedding in Surrey, England. She was the daughter of a minister and the marriage took place at her father's church. The vendor has seen a photograph of the wedding showing the hat (-3) and bodice (-2) with the original skirt which contained 4-6 metres of silk, pleated at one side and draped at the other. The skirt was subsequently taken apart and remade (in England) into the dress in about 1912. The family arrived in Australia in the 1920s after travelling in Europe and the dress was bought to Tamworth in 1940 by Mrs Oliver's sister. The dress was made in about 1885 and worn until about 1915.
