Michael Jackson doll in box
Object No. 2018/91/3
Michael Jackson (1958 - 2009) was one of the biggest and most influential music stars of the 20th century. 'The King of Pop', Jackson was a talented singer, choreographer, dancer, recording artist and songwriter who revolutionised the music video clip and has also been depicted by artists such as Andy Warhol. The huge success of the 1982 album 'Thriller' made Jackson a household name and resulted in a boom in Michael Jackson merchandise, such as this Michael Jackson 'Superstar of the 80s' doll made by New York-based LJN Toys Ltd. The doll wears a miniature version of his outfit from the 1984 American Music Awards, where he won eight awards including best Pop/Rock Male, Soul/R&B Male and the Award of Merit and 'Thriller' winning best Pop/Rock Album and Soul/R&B Album. LJN produced a range of Michael Jackson dolls around this time, wearing various outfits such as that from the 'Beat It' video clip and the 1984 Grammy Awards. You could also purchase separate outfits to dress your Michael Jackson doll, including those from the 'Thriller' and 'Billie Jean' video clips and the 'Human Nature' single cover.
