This propaganda poster is an excellent example of Chinese political visual culture, especially from the second half of 20th century. It is also a great reference to understand the cultural context of a time that has seen extraordinary political and social change in China.

Physical Description
Poster, portrait orientation, printed in colour. The image shows a group of smiling people, each dressed in different types of work wear and each holding a different tool of work. The group is arranged in three tiered rows. In the front and lower row are three people, the first wearing an apron and holding a weaving shuttle, the second holding a scythe and a large sheaf of golden wheat, the third carrying a tray laden with bowls. In the second row of two people, the first figure wears a helmet and has a coil of (possibly) rope looped around her shoulder, the second figure wears a welding helmet. In the last row, at the top of the image, is an aviator in a brown boiler suit and a helmet. In a rough band across the bottom of the image is a riot of colourful flowers. To the right of the image, in a distant, hazy background are industrial structures, a ship, cranes and possibly silos. Across the bottom of the image a caption is written in red Chinese characters.
