Physical Description

Embroidered textile sampler (Berlin wool work), wool, maker unknown, England, 1856-1900 This long narrow sampler has a crimson coloured edge which has been back stitched onto three sides. The sampler is divided into seven sections each separated by a decorative band of different styles, some incomplete. The sampler shows a variety of stitches and patterns; cross stitch, satin stitch, petit point in flowers, leaves, roses and abstract patterns many with graduated tones. Some silk thread has been used.
