Hat, bamboo / plant fibre, maker unknown, India, used by the AusAID Centre for Pacific Development and Training, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1980-1998 A peaked helmet shaped hat from the region of Assam in India. The hat features a rounded crown and rounded peak, constructed with a rigid underlying leaf base overlaid in open work plaiting in polished bamboo or reed, the edges bound in a multi element plait. Label attached. There is a photograph of Tilottama Barooah in her graduating class in the blue photograph album. Tilottama Barooah is second from the right in the bottom row.
