Physical Description

Bratina, electrotype reproduction, gilt on brass, Elkington and Co., London, c.1886 Elkington reproduction of Russian seventeenth century bratina, gilt on brass. Electrotype bratina, Russian type of loving cup, of globular shape, on 5cm deep circular foot ring; a contracted lip, slightly everted at upper edge and flat on top. Whole outer surface engraved with foliate arabesques, wreathage, flowers, eagles and phoenixes. The whole surface gilded. (OF). Electrotype Bratina; No.223; Gilt; H 5 3/4in, diam 8in; Russian, 17th century; Original of silver gilt in the Treasury of the Patriarch, Moscow. Engraved with birds and foliage (SB). Electrotype Bratina, Russian; overall engraving; 5 1/2" high, diameter 6 7/8" (LC).
