Physical Description

Three architectural drawings. The first drawing, titled 'Rough sketch plans of cottage', has two suggested sketch plans, with water colour views of the front of each proposed cottage. Below are two floor plans, each for a two bedroom house, both with front a verandah, side entrance and back porch. The drawing is on buff cardboard, once pinned in top corners. The second drawing, titled 'Rough Sketch of Cottage for Mrs Phillip', is on tracing paper in black ink. The drawing features a sketch plan of a duplex house, with front verandas and two chimneys. The third drawing is a hand-coloured version of the second drawing on tracing paper, titled 'Sketch plan of cottage for Mrs Phillips'. The drawing is fixed between two strips of cardboard, pinned at top. The sketch plan is a watercolour view of the front elevation of a duplex. Below this is a the duplex, with dimensions.

HISTORY

Notes

This comes from the estate of Raymond W Phillips. His father, Arthur, had been a gold and silver merchant. In 1920 the family moved from Willoughby to Latimer Road, Bellevue Hill. A bachelor, Raymond Phillips remained in the house after his parents' death. He worked for Consolidated Press as a rotogravure operator and was responsible for the covers of the Australian Women's Weekly.
