Black and white photograph of the flame at Miller's Point, mounted on stiff cardboard with gold painted edges. A street light is visible in the foreground and some houses are illuminated by the flame. Remainder of the image is black. Caption on verso reads 'Flame / from the combustion / of / 250 cases of Kerocene [sic] at / Millers Point / Dec/90 / Plate exposed 15 minutes / by H.C.R'

Notes
The photograph was taken by or owned by James Short, who was in charge of the astrographic telescope at Sydney Observatory's Red Hill Branch from July 1890 until his retirement in 1930. The initials on the reverse indicate the photograph was probably taken by Henry Chamberlain Russell.
