Photograph from negative appears on page 143 of the book with the caption "The Surf Life Saving Movement began in Manly in 1907, and now has some twenty-five thousand members who make over five thousand rescues in a year. It is a voluntary community effort to save lives, based on fitness and teamwork." Photograph taken at a Manly surf carnival.
