Physical Description

Radio receiver, mantle radio, Bakelite / glass / metal electronic components, maker unknown for Anthony Hordern & Sons Ltd, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, c. 1947 Brown Bakelite radio with square speaker section and matching square frequency dial. Design features seven moulded horizontal lines across centre. Two control knobs below speaker and two below dial. Dial needle is white painted metal, centre of dial reads 'UNI / Anthony Hordern & Sons Ltd'. Open back with sticker on chassis reads 'DANCER' with safety instructions.

HISTORY

Notes

Anthony Hordern & Sons Ltd was registered in New South Wales in 1926. The company was taken over by Waltons Ltd. in late 1969. This radio was collected between 1940 and the late 1960s when the donor was an active radio electronic engineer operating a business from home building and repairing radios. The donor accumulated a collection of radios, valves, radio journals and assorted electrical engineering material over a lifetime.
