Hot Point 'Band Master' radio

The Hotpoint Bandmaster radio was designed and manufactured by AWA for Australian Electric Industries in the early to mid 1940s. The cabinet styling includes some ornamental elements however the simplicity of the overall form and the use of modern (ply) materials make this radio more suitable for a modern post war interior. The radio includes circuit diagrams and notes on modifications made by the donor in the late 1980s.

Physical Description

Radio receiver and document, Hotpoint 'Band master', timber / glass / electronic components / paper, designed and made by AWA for Australian General Electric Pty Ltd, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1940-1946, modified by David Hain, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1989 Rectangular wooden mantle radio with two strips of pale wood inlaid creating horizontal stripes through middle of square speaker section. Rectangular frequency dial angled upwards below speaker has a control knob on either side. On plastic moulding around dial 'Hotpoint AGE Band-Master'. Additional knob on right end of cabinet. Hand drawn diagram in black ink. Notes on circuit diagram by David Hain: 'Some changes made, December 1989 to the Hotpoint radio given to me by Beryl.' Three used capacitors and three electronic components in a plastic bag.

HISTORY

Notes

This radio was collected between the late 1940s and the late 1960s when the donor was an active radio electronic engineer operating a business from home building and repairing radios. The donor accumulated a collection of radios, valves, radio journals and assorted electrical engineering material over a lifetime. Circuit diagram and used parts found in back of radio.
