'A New Approach to Textile Designing' book published by Ure Smith Pty Ltd
Object No. 2003/88/1-6/6
STP (Silk & Textile Printers, Sydney & Hobart) launched their ambitious Modernage Fabrics range of artist-designed fabrics in 1946. The artists' artworks were translated into textile designs and printed by staff at STP, Barcom Avenue, Rushcuttters Bay, Sydney. The textiles and paintings were then exhibitied in Sydney and Melbourne during 1947. Despite receiving widespread publicity in newspapers and magazine, the range met with limited commercial success, which co-founder of STP, Claudio Alcorso later attributed to the post-war climate of conservatism in Australia.
