Photograph of Dahl & Geoffrey Collings' house at Castlecrag by Max Dupain

Object No. 92/191-19/56

Max Dupain (1911-1992) took a series of photographs which document Athur Baldwinson's modern homes for modern artists. Photographer Max Dupain and architect Arthur Baldwinson were among the artists, designers and photographers collaborating to introduce a new international modernist aesthetic to Australia in the immediate pre- and post-WWII period. Baldwinson designed numerous homes (often in bushland settings) for these leading Australian modernists whom he met through the Contemporary Art Society, including Max Dupain, Douglas Annand and Dahl and Geoffrey Collings (photos show their house 1950-1953).
