Surgical mask, cotton gauze, maker unknown, possibly made in the Netherlands, probably 1930-1950

Physical Description

The mask consists of a rectangle of double thickness cotton gauze, apparently machine stitched. At each corner there is a length of white cotton tape, hemmed at the end.

Notes

The maker of the mask is unknown but it was possibly made in the Netherlands, probably between 1930 and 1950.

HISTORY

Notes

The donor believes this mask probably dates from her mother's days as a nurse in Holland before she migrated to Australia with her husband and children in 1951. Her mother, Mrs van de Voorde, died in September 2004 aged 92 years.
