Pitchfork used at Sydney Observatory workshop

Object No. 85/1500

Pitchforks were widely used to build haystacks and load sheaves of wheat onto wagons. This one was made in Australia, probably in the 1930s, and was used not on a farm but in Sydney at the Observatory. Perhaps it was used to collect grass after scything, commonly undertaken before the use of the Victa lawn mower.
