PRODUCTION

Notes

The group stopped at Parramatta Park on the way to visit Tebbutt at Windsor, so it is unlikely that Tebbutt appears in the photo, which is of only 4 people: Dr Dyson, England's Astronomer Royal; Professor Turner, Director of Oxford University Observatory; James Nangle, architect, amateur astronomer and NSW Superintendent of Technical Education; and Professor Cooke, NSW Government Astronomer. The other member of the group was one of Nangle's sons, so it is likely that he was the photographer. The date was August 1914. Parramatta Park is the site where Sir Thomas Brisbane's observatory was built in 1822, and the obelisk commemorates the observatory and the production of the Parramatta star catalogue.
