Ralph Hargrave was born in Kensington, England on 24 June 1848. He died, unmarried, in Hong Kong on 7 July 1888.

Hargrave, Ralph

The Kings School was established in 1832 and moved to a purpose built site in O'Connell Street, Parramatta.  The Central Block building of the school was erected in 1834-1836.  The building was originally two-storey, constructed of sandstone with a hipped slate roof, central entrance portico and roundheaded groundfloor windows.  The attic of the building, present in this image, was replaced by the present second floor.  A three storey wing was attached to the west end of the building in 1906. The Former Headmaster's Residence is at the eastern end of the Central Block building.  It is also constructed of sandstone and was erected in 1832 and extended in 1852 and 1882.  A second storey and verandahs were added to the building in 1890.  The Kings School had outgrown this site by 1962 and moved to a new site at Gowan Brae, Parramatta. The original site of the school is now the Marsden Rehabilitation Centre.  The Former Kings School Group is listed on the Register of the National Estate.
