Hargrave lived here from 1902 to his death in 1915. The house was designed by Arthur McCredie.

The suburb ofPoint Piper is located six kilometres east of Sydney in the Municipality of Woollahra.  It is situated on a peninsula between Rose Bay and Double Bay and was originally known as Elizabeth Point.  The name was changed after Captain John Piper built a mansion on a grant of land he received on the point c. 1820.  Piper's mansion was demolished and Woollahra House was built there in 1883.
