Physical Description

A Black Cat cigarette card from the Raemaekers War Cartoons set featuring Allied propaganda. This card front features a coloured cartoon of the seated Pope listening to King Albert of Belgium. The description on the reverse is headed with, 'Lest we Forget', titled, 'No.23 - King Albert's answer to the Pope: "With him who broke his word, devastated my country, burned my villages, destroyed my towns, desecrated my churches, and murdered my people, I will not make peace before he is expelled from my country and punished for his crimes"', and followed by, 'THE heroic attitude of King Albert of Belgium has been one of the great features of the war, and this monarch has won imperishable fame by his gallant conduct and the leadership of his army against the common enemy.'.
