Physical Description
Violin, walking stick, pochette, wood/silver, unknown maker, place [Mittenwald, Germany, late 19th century]. Violin in the form of a walking stick, a long cylindrical pole of wood with a point at one end and a hook at the other. The stick is in 5 detatchable sections. The middle section of the stick is composed of two long semi circular pieces, the bottom piece, (-1) bearing strings, pegs. sound holes and an ebony finger board attached to the flat inner surface. A cone shaped protrudes from the bottom of this section to form the point of the stick. A cover (-3) fits over the violin face to create the cylindrial form of the stick. A handle (-2) with a T shaped hook attaches to the top of the stick by a narrow silver collar (-5). A bow (-4) and a key (-X) also belong with the violin.
