Summary
Physical Description
(-1) Gusle, single stringed, bowed instrument,head neck and body carved from a single block of wood,Headstock features a man with a hat carrying a book in outstretched arms and riding a pony wich is standing on a bull/ox head. Carved, wooden, bowl shaped sound chamber. Soundboard made from dried skin stretched over body and secured at the sides by wooden nails.Sound bowl has cross hole in base, soundboard skin has four small sound holes. Knob of wood at bottom of body has leather thong attached as a tail piece, to which the horse hair string is attached. Neck is of browm square cut wood, which has one tuning peg at the top with the horse hair string attached. wood shows evidence of borer. (-2) Bow, see part record for description.
