Dress decorated with tram tickets

This dress consisting of skirt and bodice of pink polished cotton is covered with cream, yellow, green and tan coloured Sydney and New South Wales Government Tramway tickets. It was made by in about 1906 by Effie Bradshaw, as a dress up costume for balls. The dress was featured in an article in the Australian Women's Weekly " in 1964. Mrs Bradshaw said " I added a toy tram to my coiffure and hid the battery to light it in my bodice. I carried a bag of tickets and blew my whistle in the square dance....But I had to stand up all night so the tickets wouldn't tear". .. "I saved up all my 1d. tram tickets riding from Annandale to Central Railway..and pursued my friends for the rest".

Physical Description
Dress, womens, decorated with tram tickets c. 1906, cotton / paper, made by Effie Bradshaw, Sydney, Australia, 1906 Dress consisting of skirt and bodice of pink polished cotton covered with cream, yellow, green and tan coloured Sydney and New South Wales Government Tramway tickets, tacked lengthways. These include one penny, one and half pence, tuppence and threepence tickets. The A-line skirt has a diagonal piece of cream silk across front with red printing 'WAIT HERE FOR TRAMS'. Bodice has three quarter length sleeves and cardboard sign at square neckline 'Increased trams fares from 1.4.1914'. Bodice fastens with seven metal hooks and eyes at centre back. Hem of bodice is unfinished.

Worn by the donor initially for a Masonic Masquerade Ball where she won a prize, and at other later occasions. "I added a toy tram to my coiffure and hid the battery to light it in my bodice.
