Physical Description

A lace collar, in the style of Bedfordshire lace, made using the bobbin lace technique and made of cotton. Collar is circular in shape and features a scalloped edge around the neckline with six oval shaped embroidered muslin panels. These panels feature a circular motif surrounded by flowers. Bobbin laace features, leaf and floral designs with a scalloped edge. Lace is constructed using cloth stitch, leaf tallies, plaited joining bars and half stitch. Lace collar is made of cotton.

This length of lace is made using bobbin lace. Bobbin lace is woven over a pattern on a firm pillow, with threads wound on bobbins.It developed at the end of the fifteenth century, probably from one of the braidmaking techniques of the time. This lace collar is constructed using cloth stitch, leaf tallies, plaited joining bars and half stitch. Lace collar is made of cotton.
