HISTORY
Notes
This piano was initially used by Broadwood as a hiring instrument and was hired to Lady Frances Pepys (daughter of the 1st Earl of Cottenham) at her Park Lane residence, London from 24/3/1852 to 13/7/1852. The piano was described by Broadwoods as a 'Bichorda Patent Repetition Rosewood No. 17942'. On 18/8/1852 it was packed in a deal and tin packing case for shipping to Andrew McCulloch Esq of Sydney at a cost of 105 guineas (comprising the price of the piano plus shipping). This was aboard the ship 'Washington Irving' under Captain John Jones and arrived in Sydney via Port Phillip (Melbourne) on 23/12/1852. Sources: (Broadwood Archive, sourced 20/9/1995) Trove
