Grand pianoforte, timber, metal and ivory, John Broadwood, London, 1889. Iron frame; compass modern 88 notes with 8 single wound strings, 3 wound bichord and the remainder trichord but each individually hitched in the ancient manner (Moule); underdamper; straight stringing; tuning pins still have rectangular heads. English oak case, wooden pedals, heavy brass fittings.

Built at the Horsferry Road works & completed on 14/11/1889. Described by Broadwood archive as a "No.8 concert grand in oak case. "Hired to Sir Charles Halle and shipped to Melbourne for a coast to coast Broadwood promotional tour of Australia in 1890. Sold to Messrs Atkin, Crawford & Co., music warehouse, 137 Elizabeth St., Melbourne on 30/9/1890 for £188 6s 4d.

Described by Broadwood archive as a "No.8 concert grand in oak case. "Hired to Sir Charles Halle and shipped to Melbourne for a coast to coast Broadwood promotional tour of Australia in 1890. Sold to Messrs Atkin, Crawford & Co., music warehouse, 137 Elizabeth St., Melbourne on 30/9/1890 for £188 6s 4d. Sir Charles Halle (1819-1895) was a noted pianist and conductor of the 19th century who knew Chopin, Liszt, Berlioz & Wagner. Although born in Germany he moved to England in 1848 & settled in Manchester where he established a concert series - the Halle Concerts - & was instrumental in founding the Royal Manchester College of Music.
