Physical Description

Slip on shoe, right of pair, womens, silk brocade / leather, made by Gundry & Sons, London, England, c1839 Womens slip on right shoe of turnshoe construction with narrow square toe and low stacked heel. Shoe consists of ivory and silver thread silk brocade upper in a diamond pattern with square throat, oblique side seams and back seam, all bound and lined with linen and kid. Heel is leather and sole is white finished leather. The shoe is an imitation medieval style, possibly for fancy dress. (See object file for specialist report by June Swann)
