Square piano, wood / metal / ivory / fabric, made by John Broadwood & Sons, London, England, 1839 Square piano with suspended wooden sustaining pedal. The music rack slides and folds out. There is open scrollwork on the case together with two decorative metal grilles with fabric backing on either side of nameboard. There are metal bracing components within, coloured black with swirling gold. Manufacturer's and seller's information is inscribed above the keys.

The square piano was made by John Broadwood & Sons, London, England in 1839.
HISTORY
Notes
According to information in a letter on file from Broadwood Pianos Ltd dated 1995, the square piano was sold on the 28th February 1839 to a Scottish music shop, named as Mrs McFayden and Sons, place unknown. The piano was delivered by the porters of Broadwood Pianos Ltd to Carron Warfe, London, and transported to Scotland on a boat named 'Prosperpine'.
