Summary

Physical Description

Lengths of buckinghamshire point 'Regency' lace, bobbin lace technique, made of cotton, rectangular in shape it consists of a repeat floral design. It includes a continuous lace border with slightly shaped headside border with an undulating foliate wave scroll motif forming the pictored, scalloped headside border which extends out into the hexagonal mesh ground. The centre of each scroll motif is filled with a larger mesh ground. A row of five-petalled flowers below the straight footside border is linked to each wave scroll. The side of each pattern repeat is 60mm in width and is repeated five times along lace length. The solid areas of the design are worked in a cloth stitch with a central division which is bordered by a gimp thread. There is not gimp outlining of the motifs as is more usual in this style of lace. The mesh is the stan and tulle mesh and the ehadside is ornamented by picots. This length of lace is constructed from cotton thread.
