Physical Description

Shotgun, percussion, single-barrel, calibre 2.0 cm at muzzle, muzzel loading, with ramrod, [May have belonged to W C Wentworth or his brother in law William Cox], unknown maker, unknown place of manufacture, about 1830-1850. Smooth bore, single barrel shotgun. The barrel is round for most of it's length but octagonal near the lock. The lock plate, hammer and barrel tang are decorated with engraved scrollwork. The trigger guard and tang finial with pineapple motif. There is a silver inset behind the barrel tang which bears a monogram. A ramrod is mounted on the side of the barrel.

Notes

The maker and place of manufacture of the shotgun are not known. It dates from about 1830-1850.

HISTORY

Notes

The initals 'W C' are scratched on the silver inset. Notes on file say the gun may have belonged to William Charles Wentworth or his brother in law William Cox. There is no explanation on file to explain the attribution.
