Physical Description
Half plate camera with lens, tripod and hood, metal / glass / fabric, Fallowfield & Co / Perken, Son & Rayment, England, 1880s-1890s. Camera: half plate camera of polished wood with brass bound construction, the base board folds down from the rear of the camera body. Protective flap opens to allow fold down and secures base board open. Focusing plate is extended on track along base board. The lens set on adjustable lens board. Dry plate. Lens: brass body lens. Tripod: collapsible three leg tripod with a wooden plate at top holding legs together, brass bound construction. Hood: black photographer's hood.

England in 1856. In 1860 he started publishing Fallowfields Photographic Annual which by 1900 contained 880 pages and 1620 illustrations. In 1888 Fallowfields was purchased by F. W. Hindley who retained the Fallowfield name and in the following year they received the rights to market the Facile camera, which was designed and patented by Frankiall. In 1890 the business moved to 146 Charing Cross Road, London and in the following decade were one of the first to encourage the use of automatic ferrotype cameras which could develop images on the spot, these cameras included the Takuquick, Taquta, and Popular Ferrotype. By 1919 the production of Fallowfield labeled camerstarted to decline although the business continued to sell equipment and photographic materials.
