E Remington & Son was founded in 1839 and renamed in 1845 to E. Remington & Sons. The company initially manufactured and sold firrearms before branching out into sewing maching and type writers. In 1886 E. Remington and Sons sold its typewriter business, to the Standard Typewriter Manufacturing Company, Inc. Included were the rights to use the Remington name. E. Remington and Sons changed its name to Remington Arms.
