HISTORY

Notes

This model is thought to have been made about the time of the "Dunbar" disaster. c.1857. It is reputed to be the model used to construct the first lifeboat built in Sydney. The official lifeboat service in Sydney began in 1858 from South Head , partly due to public pressure following the loss of both the "Dunbar" and the "Catherine Adamson". This was before the self-righting, self-draining British lifeboat design was available.
