Calculigraph slide rule and charts

At a time when high-quality slide rules were very expensive there was also a market for very basic, low-cost slide rules, which may be typified by the Colyer-Noyes Calculigraph Model, made from two fabric boards with logarithmic scales. The functions are the basic ones of multiplication, division, proportion and square root.

Physical Description
Slide rule and charts, 'The Calculigraph The Colyer-Noyes Slide Rule', fabric, printed and published by John Sands, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia,1885-1895 Calculigraph slide rule made of cardboard, with mathematical charts inside two strong grey fabric boards that open out. There are logarithmic scales fixed to the flat surfaces in a table form. There is a grey pocket inside which contains a 'bridge' - device for using the logarithmic scales and an instructions booklet. The functions of the scales are primarily multiplication, division, proportion and square root. There is a small A5 sized book located inside describing the instrument and its uses, along with a complete mathematical chart and another smaller 4 page booklet detailing the importance and history of the instrument.
