This is a model of a single-cylinder horizontal steam engine. This type of engine was used to run all sorts of equipment via a belt attached to its drive pulley. The model was made by Stephen Coulson and donated to the Museum by Mrs H. Cowen.

Physical Description

Working model of a single-cylinder horizontal steam engine, metal / wood, housed in a wooden case, made by Stephen Coulson, before 1960 Features a finished steam jacketed cylinder and crankshaft mounted on a cast-iron bed. On the crankshaft are a flywheel pulley and two eccentrics. Polished wood base, model is housed in a wooden case measuring 19 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 8 1/4".
