R type electric tram made by Clyde Engineering Company

This is the R type electric Sydney tram, No.1738. It was the first made by the successful tenderer for the R class trams, the Clyde Engineering Co., in the Sydney suburb of Clyde. The tram was ceremoniously placed in service at Randwick Workshops on 29 September 1933.

Physical Description

Height 10'6", length 47', width 9'. Weight 17 tons 13 cwt. First placed in service 3rd. November, 1933 on Watsons Bay line. Designed to carry 48 seated passengers and 80 standees. Last cars built by the Department of Govt. Parts include leather strap and key.
