Physical Description
Tunic (Aba), mens, silk / metallic thread, maker unknown, Syria, late nineteenth century. Handwoven aba or man's tunic of weft faced plain weave construction, with seams at shoulder level and horizontal centre. The armholes and top seam have been bound with an overstitch, plait style in green thread. The tunic is in green silk with a woven geometric pattern in gold and silver metallic thread highlighted with scarlet and purple silk. The neck edge is embroidered in couched gold thread and tamboured green silk.
