Physical Description

Fragment, textile, tapestry, cotton/wool, natural dyes, [Huari or Chancay culture], Tihuanaco, Peru, South America, 1000-1400 AD (OF). Cotton and wool slit tapestry woven textile fragment in natural dyed browns, ochre, red, white and black. Worked in horizontal bands depicting stylised animals and birds with narrow geometric dividing bands, upper left corner worked in curved geometric bands with stylised birds. (Four different birds with some two headed ones) Small vertical warp slits worked within the bands. (Possibly from a larger garment - this could be part of a sleeve.)
