Physical Description
Pair of womens roller-skates consisting of dark brown leather lace-up boots with pointed toes and ankle straps mounted onto metal frames with wooden wheels. Photographic print of Miss Elsie White on roller-skates. Elsie White is standing outside a building wearing a white blouse, and long black skirt and roller-skates. Black and white photographic print of Miss Joan White and two friends skiing in Switzerland. The women wear hats, scarves, long sleeved tops, gloves, skirts and stockings. They each hold a stock and have skis attached. In the background is a chalet and snow covered landscape. The print has a black border.

The maker of the roller-skates is unknown. They were most probably made in Australia in about 1913. The photographer of the prints is unknown.
HISTORY
Notes
These roller-skates were owned by Elsie White of Saumarez Homestead, Armidale, New South Wales. There were two roller skating rinks in Armidale at the time. They are part of a collection of women's costumes and accessories relating to the women of Saumarez Homestead. They were donated to the Museum in 1981. It has particular value as a provenanced collection which is well documented to the White family of Saumarez. This background, along with photos provided by the donors, gives insight into taste and lifestyle of this period.
