Physical Description

Evening dress, women's, metallic machine lace, unknown maker, unknown place, 1920-1925. Gold coloured, sleeveless pull-on style. Fitted bodice with gored style, knee length skirt with scalloped hem. V-neckline front and back, tapered shoulders straps with narrow gold mettallic braid straps with press stud fastenings join front and back straps at shoulder. Dress is pieced from 3 different types of metallic thread machine made laces. Body of the dress cut from silver metallic thread on a soft black silk ground with hexagonal honeycomb mesh. Gold metallic thread with large abstract ground and abstract design from lozenge shaped panels inset into the bodice and skirt. Wide gold metallic lace border with floral motif and scalloped headside border forms the hem band. Neck and sleeves bound with narrow gold metallic thread braid. Gold, black and silver loose waisted net evening dress. Australia. c. 1920. (LC).
