Summary
Physical Description
Pillow, rectangular, inner case of linen covered with white cotton muslin and edged with a flounce of white cotton muslin. The upper surface is stuck with pins, the heads grouped to form decorative patterns and lettering. Some pin have the older 'brass coil' heads, others have smooth heads (which came into use c. 1820 in England). Handsewn. Unidentified filling. At the top the pin heads are formed into the image of a bell and two doves with the caption "Advance Australia", below the pins form the letters of a verse "Come Gentle Babe & with thy smile / A woman's Direst Pangs Beguile / Come Sweet Infant come & Crown / Her Day's with Blessings yet unknown / Born June A.D.1833". A heart decorates each corner. The pillow surface is bordered with a zig zag pattern.
