Object No. A2976

This is a Japanese lantern clock with an engraved brass dial decorated with signs of the zodiac. It was made in Japan in 1860. Even though it is a Japanese clock, the symbols on its face come from the Chinese calendar. For centuries Japan used the same way of telling the time and the same calendar as China.
