Vase by Royal Doulton

Object No. A2742

After ther WW2, experiments with 'transmutation' glazes continued at Doulton and in 1925 higly ornamental Chang ware was introduced. Made until the late 1940s, typically several layers of thick glazes ran in tonques of varying sizes down the sides of heavy, wheel-thrown vessels. Doulton's publicity material linked the name given to the series to 'Chang the Elder, one of the greatest master potters of the Sung Dynasty...' - He probably never existed!
