Notes

The donor of the chest, a Mr W J Bartlett of Goulburn, stated that the chest was once the property of explorer and settler William Hilton Hovell (1786-1875). Such was the interest in the chest that the Daily Telegraph newspaper, published an article detailing the Museum's acquisition of the chest. 'A very fine specimen of an old iron chest has just been added to the collections of the Technological Museum, Harris-street, and is now on view in the iron courts.' (Daily Telegraph, June 12, 1912),
