Summary

Physical Description

An archive of architectural drawings, consisting of drawings relating to 187 New South Wales hotels formerly owned or leased by Tooth & Co. Each collection of drawings includes drawings prepared during the 1970s and 1980s by the Tooth & Co architect's office, usually for alterations to meet the requirements of fire, entertainment and other building and licensing regulations. Although prepared for specific alterations, these drawings provide a general documentation of each building. Also included are a variety of earlier drawings prepared by a variety of architects, sometimes dating back to the original presentation and working drawings from the 1920s and 1930s. Examples of original presentation drawings include the Surrey (1925, King Street City - now the Louis Vuiton building), the Royal Edward (1937, Darlington), the Royal (1929, Bondi), the Golden Barley (1939, Marrickville) and the Hollywood (1940, Surry Hills).

HISTORY

Notes

The drawings were prepared by or for the Tooth & Co architects' office which closed in 1990 with the sale of the last of Tooth's hotels. The drawings were then given to the donor, George Tickelpenny, a Tooth & Co architect, as part of his redundancy agreement. Mr Tickelpenny has since 1990 carried out design work for the new owners of several of the hotels.
