PRODUCTION
Notes
The Speedo swimsuit Mark Spitz is wearing was designed by Speedo's Australian designer Gloria Mortimer-Dunn and made in the USA. Speedo by this time had licensed out the manufacture of Speedo's for the overseas market. Gloria Mortimer-Dunn noted that Mark Spitz had a contract with a [German] swimwear manufacturer Arena and the US was also reluctant to acknowledge that their team was competing in Australian designed swimwear, this Gloria felt was why Mark Spitz hides the Speedo logo with his hand! For the design Gloria had just used a very simple configuration of the American flag. The poster was made in the USA as were the Speedo's. Manufactured
HISTORY
Notes
Used by Robert Gillespie. Robert purchased the poster and a pair of swim briefs like the ones Mark Spitz is wearing when on tour in the USA in 1973. He had the poster sticky taped to his wall at one stage. Robert is a volunteer at the Powerhouse Museum and feels that he has always had an eye for items that may be of historical importance which he has collected, enjoyed and then passed onto a museum. Bought by Robert Gillespie in the U.S.A.
