Notes

'Love' shoes designed by Jan Jansen are a play on the theme of love. The shoes have an inverted wedge heel and are detailed with red metallic leather that fold to resemble a heart and perhaps lips. The wedge was a heel innnovation first introduced by Ferragamo in the 1930s, which became very popular throughout the 1940s. Jan Jansen is a Dutch designer who originally designed under the 'Jeannot' label before designing for himself in the 1990s. His shoes are characteristically extreme in form with unusual silhouettes and strong colour combinations. Jansen continues to craft his shoes by hand and experiment with shapes, particuarly the heel. His shoes, not designed for the conservative woman, have been likened to wearable sculptures that go beyond seasonal changes. Jansen has stores in Amsterdam, Paris and Antwerp. Trained in Rome, Jansen has designed for the house of Christian Dior and Bally of Switzerland. In 1985 he received the 'Kho Liang le' award from the Amsterdam Art Council (the first shoe designer to receive a prize for industrial design). The shoes were made in Italy for Jan Jansen for Autumn/Winter collection 1989. The 'Love' design is still production. Date of manufacture is 1989.
